And Then I Started Chanting His Name and Everything Changed

The other day, my son walked into the room and something felt off.

He looked defeated. Heavy. Carrying something I didn’t yet understand.

Without really thinking about it, I did the strangest thing.

I started chanting his name.

Over and over.

Like he was up to bat in the bottom of the 9th.

And the craziest thing happened.

He lit up.

He had no idea what was going on (neither did I to be honest). He walked into the room carrying his own burdens, but when the room filled with his name, everything shifted. Whatever was weighing him down suddenly didn’t feel so heavy anymore.

Have you ever thought why fans chant a player’s name?

It’s not because the moment is easy.

It’s usually when the pressure is highest.

When the game is on the line.

When someone needs a reminder that they’re not alone.

When your biggest fan starts chanting for you, it’s a game changer.

So I wonder…

How often do we vocally (physically, emotionally, mentally, spiritually) cheer on the people on our team?

The coworker who’s overwhelmed.

The one whose back is against the wall.

The person juggling chaos at work and at home.

We’ve all been there (or are there now).

And then, every once in a while, someone shows up and becomes our biggest fan. They see us. They believe in us. They start chanting our name.

Over and over.

Until we win.

There’s real power in being that kind of encourager.

Funny how the smallest, most unexpected encouragement can sometimes make the biggest difference.

So I’ll ask you this:

Who do you need to start connecting with to work through what you’re stuck on so you can become the encourage or everybody needs?

Sometimes before we can start chanting others names we have to hear ours. Personally, I’m rooting for you.
